How I Spent My Summer Vacation
Sure, I now have a wicked farmer's tan and spinters and blisters and such. BUt it was all worth it when I saw the boy smile ![]()
More can be found here. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v347/ … 20Harriet/ A progression from beginning to current status. I can't say "end," still more detail work to do.
Re: How I Spent My Summer Vacation
great work Cappy - do you really let kids on it or is it just for you? Honestly.
Re: How I Spent My Summer Vacation
OK Cappy I've been thinking about this and I've decided - I WANT ONE

Re: How I Spent My Summer Vacation
[blushing] Why thank you very much.
Madplanet was over the other day and wanted to know when I was going to build one big enough for me and my friends to play on. I explained that "The Lady" could be considered a 2/3 version, but I'll need to get into a foundry in order to cast the cannons.
And yes, children are allowed on to play. How else am I going to find the design flaws?
Re: How I Spent My Summer Vacation
mmmmmmmmmmmm cannons
Speaking as someone who actually climbed on it and touched it, I'd have to say Cappy did a MAGNIFICENT job!

I just re-read my post, and I can't help but chuckle. If someone were to read that out of context..... ![]()

Re: How I Spent My Summer Vacation
And thanks NightShade, that means a lot coming from an honest-to-goodness sailor.
Sorry, Paz, all I had was some rough sketches that I was working from. It was treated as a kind of sculpture project so I wasn't too interested in a plan (heh, that'll look good on my headstone: "Wasn't too interested in a plan") of any kind. I had been scavenging wood from the neighbors in anticipation to building this thing. For example, many of the deck supports are from a failed staircase (some nicely warped stuff, too) and the planks for the sides were once a series of basement shelves.
Re: How I Spent My Summer Vacation
I'd kind of figured that that might be the case - I'm a great scavenger too - picked up 8 oversized pallets this week though I have no idea what they are for - YET

Hey, many of the rusty nails have been pounded kind of flat, mister!
